Evenement Beschrijving

Alexander Brott is a Swedish/Canadian jazz guitarist and composer who divides his time between Europe and New York where he plays with some of the world’s finest jazz musicians. Hailed as a virtuoso of jazz of the 40/50’s with role models such as Tadd Dameron, Duke Ellington, Bud Powell and Hank Jones, this young guitarist’s music has been described as both “classic” and “timeless” as well as “fresh and innovative”.

This evening he will be joined by some of The Netherlands top jazz musicians for some classic repertoire performed with a lot of authenticity, creativity and swing!

Alexander Brott – Guitar
Gideon Tazelaar – Tenor Saxophone
Steven Zwanink – Upright Bass
Joost van Schaik – Drums

“Alexander Brott is one of my favorite young players on the scene. His playing is so pure in terms of where he’s coming from and also how personal his approach is. This album is a beautiful representation of his elegant playing and his fantastic writing. Every tune is masterfully constructed and a perfect vehicle for this amazing band. All of these great musicians are playing from a place of empathy and love. This a great record!!” – Peter Bernstein

“Brott has a very distinct touch on the guitar, almost like the old guitarist from the 50’. Beautiful compositions and what great band. Congrats my brother! Sounded fantastic” – Pasquale Grasso

“Absolute top-class jazz guitar” – Dalademokraten

Alexander Brott knows his classics like the back of his hand, but also knows how to draw inspiration from it to write compelling new pieces” – Jazzmania

Brott is a master of the guitar, a virtuoso” – La Habitación del Jazz

“[Brott’s] fluid, bop-based lines are reminiscent of the best of a golden era that turned the jazz world upside down as it rewrote the music’s vocabulary (…) There is, in fact, nothing about The Aesthetic Attitude that is less than admirable, from the writing and choice of musicians to the performance itself. 4 stars “ – All About Jazz

“An enjoyable slice of bebop preservation” – Jazz Journal

“Brott has an elegant, pure, flawless playing style and brilliant technique. 4 stars” – Jazz ‘n’ More

“A pleasant album full of elegantly played jazz with a nostalgic shimmer” – Lira

“The pieces evoke the sound of the mainstream music from the swing era, with beautiful themes, lots of guitar/bass clarinet unison, elaborate block-chord playing, and stylish, virtuoso solos … As I listened I was reminded again and again how timeless this material was. “ – JazzMa.Hu

“In the world of music, Brott seems to have found his key to defining ideal proportions. It’s a swing on the edge of bebop, it’s Elmo Hope’s phrasing and Bud Powell’s coloring. In this diction, Alexander Brott with Stefano Doglioni on bass clarinet, Ari Roland on double bass and  Keith Balla on drums, on the surface of nine original compositions, offer the best evolutionary version of the bebop and hardbop of the second decade of the third millennium” –Jazz.Sk
